and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all."

Ministries

Eucharistic Ministers, also called extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, are selected by the pastor and undergo training to be sure that the consecrated species are handled with appropriate reverence. Eucharistic ministers distribute Holy Communion during Mass and may also bring it to members of the congregation who are homebound.

Lectors must strongly believe in the Word of God that they are proclaiming. During the liturgy, the reader is fulfilling a mission to his or her fellow community members and is continuing Jesus’s mission of sharing the Word with God’s people. It is a sacred duty that involves a sharing of one’s own faith and requires adequate preparation.

Ushers, also called ministers of hospitality, are crucial to making sure the services run smoothly and that everyone in the congregation feels welcomed into the Church.

Altar Servers are men and women of faith who are trained to assist the priest in the celebration of the Mass.

The Women’s Guild was organized in the 1930s to promote the spiritual and social life of the parish and to respond to requests from the pastor. This remains its main purpose. The Guild, open to all women of the parish, also participates in charitable activities in Trumansburg, in Tompkins County and its surrounding area, as well as in charities throughout the world.

Religious Education is offered from September to May for children of the parish who are in grades K-7. Church school occurs in the church buildings from 9:15-10:15 a.m. on Sundays. During the classes children are also prepared for the sacraments of First Communion and First Penance. Students are also given instruction for receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

Youth Group is for members of the congregation in grades 8-12 and meets periodically on Sundays from September to May. Participants engage in various social events, Bible study, and charitable activities. If you are interested in more information about any of these ministries or would like to participate in any of the above, please contact Fr. Bernard.
