cemeterySt. James the Apostle Church, as a religious corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of New York, owns and operates St. James Cemetery in accordance with the laws of the State of New York and the rules and discipline of the Diocese of Rochester.

Cemetery Rates (effective July 1, 2016)

$650 – to purchase a plot with perpetual care in the traditional part of the cemetery
(ownership may transfer to family members, but cannot be resold)

$650 – opening and closing a traditional grave with vault

$400 – placing cremains in an already purchased plot.

$150 – to place a stone in cement, if not arranged separately by the funeral home

$75  – to place a stone in the ground (no cement)

General guidelines:

  • Cremains do not need to be placed in a vault.
  • One person’s cremains may share a burial plot with a family member.
  • Stone markers need to match the size and orientation of the rest of the cemetery and may only use images associated with the Roman Catholic faith.
  • No trees may be planted by individual graves.
  • Ownership may transfer to family members, but cannot be resold.

Green Burial Section:

$950 – to purchase a plot in the green section of the cemetery

Guidelines for the Green Burial Section:

In general, natural or “green” burial sites attempt to minimize the use of fossil fuels and chemicals and to retain the natural flora, fauna, and appearance of the site.

  • Ownership may transfer to family members, but cannot be resold.
  • Cremains may not be placed in the green section.
  • A green burial cannot be mixed with a traditional burial.
  • Opening and closing of a grave should be done by hand.
  • Families may opt to dig the grave for their deceased family member.
  • Markers must be natural or unpolished stone.
  • Artificial plants and containers are not allowed.

• Sunday, 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross, Ovid
• Sunday, 11:00 a.m. at St. James the Apostle, Trumansburg

Weekday Mass times:

• St. James the Apostle, Trumansburg: Communion service on Monday at 9:00 a.m. and Mass Tuesday through Friday at 9:00 a.m.
• St. Francis Solanus in Interlaken: Mass on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
• Holy Cross in Ovid: Mass on Fridays at 8:30 a.m. in the parish meeting house

Sacrament of Penance/Confession:
Saturdays, 3:30–4:30 p.m. at St. James the Apostle in Trumansburg or by appointment with a priest.
